American Christian School

The project Story

Over the summer one of our board members acquired with his company a rather large industrial complex filled with all sorts of things left behind by the previous owners. They gave Servant's Heart first dibs to recycle, repurpose, and redistribute these abandoned items.

In that packed space, David Justnes, our Projects Director, found a stage. He reached out to American Christian School (K-12 in Rockaway, NJ) to see if they could use it. “That's amazing!” The headmaster, Kristen Brennan, explained that she had spoken to her staff just that morning about purchasing one. Even used stages like this would cost them about $10K, so the unexpected and generous gift was much appreciated.

While delivering the stage, David noticed three doors to the gym that were broken and falling apart. “Would you like me to fix those?” David soon returned with steel doors to replace the damaged ones.

While installing the new doors, he noticed a motley collection of chairs that had definitely seen better days. So he came back with about 60 chairs --like new!-- that could be used for the school's classrooms and chapel. Next came tables! David added 12 tables on wheels to the delivery.

In Kristen's own words:

“We are a nonprofit Christian school, trying to keep tuition down and affordable for our families. It takes a village to do this and to keep the school thriving. People like David walk in and meet our needs for furniture, security, new doors, etc.  It’s the only way we survive. Our students are having the trajectory of their lives changed - going on to college, loving Jesus, volunteering. We just always have to pray for the next need to be filled. David has been the answer several times now!”

This was not an expected or scheduled job. It wasn't big or flashy, and it didn't require a team of people. But it meant the world to those who received it. And we were happy to serve.
